Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari (VSKU) is a public university established in 2010 by the Government of Karnataka in Ballari district of Karnataka, India through the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000. It has been named after Krishnadevaraya, former emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire. VSKUB previously was a post-graduate center of Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, and later became an independent university in the year 2010.
VSKU has jurisdiction over two districts: Ballari and Koppal. It has three post-graduate centers, the main campus Jnana Sagara is at Vinayaka Nagar, Ballari which is spread at about 95.37 acres, houses all the key administrative departments of the university as well as 19 postgraduate departments with 21 postgraduate programs. Among three post-graduate centers one of the centers is located at Nandihalli in Sandur tehsil of Ballari district which currently offers 10 postgraduate programs.
Another two campuses were started at Koppal (Established in 2016) and Yelburga (Established in 2017) tehsil, both in Koppal district, offering 10 and 7 postgraduate programs respectively. the University has brought about fast changes in the curriculum, and new programmes have been popularized. Placement Cell and Language Laboratory have added strength to the learning process.
Admissions are based on the eligibility and merit of the candidates.
The University contemplates providing select crash courses, diplomas, certificates and value-added courses to meet the market requirements. The mission of the university is to organically evolve as a socially sensitive institution for imparting quality higher education with greater emphasis on scientific temper and research; and for empowering students for social and financial inclusion; and for a better career, entrepreneurship and quality of life. To support the mission and aspirations of the University, four goals have been framed with specific initiatives.
